Important information for Ohio churches

CHURCHES ON THE FRONTLINE

So many suffer as a result of sexually oriented businesses in our communities.  Individual lives are devastated, marriages are shattered, families are dismantled, entire communities experience increases in crime and economic hardships.

No one would question that reaching out to the many victims of sexually oriented businesses in our communities is a proper ministry and responsibility of the Church.

But due to intentionally confusing messages of the liberal media and others seeking to limit the role of the Church in such issues, many within the Church do question whether or not involvement in a ballot campaign such as YES ON ISSUE ONE is appropriate in light of the limitations placed upon non-profit organizations by the Internal Revenue Service.

The answer is a resounding YES!

Whereas advocating on behalf of a candidate is not legal for a church or similar non-profit organization, advocating on behalf of an issue is certainly OK to a limit.  Speaking about a ballot issue from the pulpit and/or distributing literature encouraging congregants to vote for/against such is not only legal, but also appropriate, especially when it addresses the moral and spiritual concerns of the church and society.

Please click here to read a letter from the Alliance Defense Fund that provides more detail on this subject, explaining what is legal for churches in regards to the distribution of information and advocacy in favor of a YES vote on Issue 1.

Church bulletins availableIssue 1 church bulletin

To assist churches in that task, a church bulletin has been, which explains how voting and working to keep the Community Defense Act on the books in Ohio by winning at the ballot is consistent with our responsibility to reach out to the many suffering from the harmful effects of sexually oriented businesses. Click here to view a copy of the bulletin.

To order free copies of the bulletin insert for distribution at your church, email info@YesOneIssueOne, or call (513) 733-5775.
